On September 6th, 2011, the German Software-Initiative Deutschland e.V. (SID) announced the winner of its "Innovation 2011" award was eZ Systems. The independent jury rated eZ highest of the more than 20 CMS's competing for the award: "The eZ community comprises more than 40,000 active members who act as developers, quality control, and expertise pool and who, with respect to the CMS, fill an application market with constantly new components, contributing significantly to the innovative capacity of the software. Another argument for the producer is the limited vendor lock-in, which is rather uncommon in this industry." Important features noted were its multi-channel functionality, the strict separation of form and content, consistent enterprise orientation, the API, and full backward compatibility.
